How Does an ADT Door & Window Sensor Work?
Typically, a door or window sensor is a two-piece magnetic contact sensor. So, when the ADT alarm system is armed and someone opens your back door or a window, the two magnetic sensors are separated from each other thus tripping the alarm. Keep in mind that if a door or window that has contains one of these magnetic sensors is open, you will not be able to arm your ADT security system until that door or window is closed. Your sensor may be damaged or the secured door or window may not be securely closed if your door or window is causing false alarms. There are also cases where swelling and/or contracting of the door or window due to changing weather have caused false security alarms.
