How To Avoid Setting A False ADT Security Alarm

There are times people will avoid using their ADT Home Security system because they are worried about setting it off accidentally and causing a false alarm. Our goal is to help you prevent the common mistakes that would cause a false alarm.

First, let's start with the basics of your ADT home alarm system and discuss the two ways of arming your system:

  1. Away - When leaving your home, make sure to always arm your system for Away to activate the interior zones such as your motion detectors.
  2. Stay - If you have larger, active pets or pets that will climb on the furniture then you should arm your system for Stay so your motion detector does not pick up their activity that would cause a false alarm.

When coming into the home, the first thing you should do is enter your 4 digit passcode in order to disarm the system. Then, make sure to arm the system again but this time in Stay mode. This provides an extra layer of security for you and your family/guests while at home. The Stay mode feature activates your exterior doors but allows everyone in the home to move around freely without triggering the alarm.

Another way to prevent false security alarms is to make sure everyone in the home knows how to operate your alarm system.
